Do Not Submit is a series of open mics taking place in the neighborhoods of Chicago, dedicated to bringing people together to connect through personal storytelling in a supportive environment free from judgment and pressure.
We are a true non-profit in that we do not take in or make any money from this endeavor, and exist solely through donated time, resources, and spaces.
In 2012, Do Not Submit was created as a single monthly open mic on the north side of Chicago, and enjoyed a two-year run before losing its venue. In 2015, Do Not Submit returned with the goal of expanding to include the people, places, and communities that had not yet been exposed to the current movement in personal storytelling.
Do Not Submit is produced by Scott Whitehair, a local storyteller/teacher/producer who dedicates his life to sharing his own stories and creating opportunities for others to do the same. Scott also produces the long-running monthly storytelling event This Much Is True, and is creator of Story Lab Chicago, which has put over 700 new or first time storytellers on stage since 2011.
